Forests

What is a Native Forest??

The term Native Forest means any forested area which has established naturally – not  a plantation.  Just because it is a Native Forest doesn’t mean it doesn’t require management to bring it to its greatest potential.

After a harvest or a fire, the forest will regrow, but the proverbial ‘hairs on a cat’s back’ is how it will return. This can mean that thousands of young trees will regenerate within an area as small as a hectare and all will be competing for space, sunshine,  water and nutrients.

To produce trees suitable for timber, shade, shelter of stock etc, this area will need to be thinned so that the best trees remain and they will grow to their potential.
